This week, the digital world buzzed with dramatic shifts around ChatGPT leadership and X/twitter CEO Elon Musk’s public rant against advertisers–all but declaring the impending failure of the platform. These headlines read more like the recap of Desperate Housewives than news of major digital giant corporations. Yet, it’s a classic tale of technological evolution and its ripple effects. It’s also a stark reminder of the volatility of digital platforms and tools we often take for granted.

Watching digital giants stumble, makes us realize that even the most robust platforms can have their shaky moments. Now, translate that to your business’s reliance on social media – these rented spaces are similarly vulnerable to changes and disruptions beyond our control.

As a 360° Marketing Strategist my job is to help my clients look at the big picture and build strong conversations with their audience across platforms. Your business’s strategy should be like a well-rounded investment portfolio. Don’t put all your stocks in one company, right? Similarly, diversifying your online and offline presence is crucial as any one of your platform channels could be gone tomorrow. Are you prepared for that?

Alongside social media you should invest in a website, a blog, and build your email list – platforms you can call your own. If you are local, test advertising in offline avenues as well, like the local paper or radio, and network, network, network! This way, when the digital ground shakes, as it did with ChatGPT and Twitter (X), your business stands firm on diversified ground and holds the ability to quickly pivot your strategy if you need to.

Let the ChatGPT saga and other shake-ups in the digital space be a wake-up call. It’s a reminder to not build your digital empire solely on rented land. Embrace social media, but also secure your foothold on platforms where you call the shots. It’s about being prepared, adaptable, and resilient in the ever-evolving digital landscape.
